Eric Bailly has sent Manchester United fans an emotional farewell message after sealing a move to Besiktas.

The Ivorian defender leaves Old Trafford after seven years, after originally joining the club for £30m from LaLiga side Villarreal.

Bailly’s time with the club was unfortunately plagued by injuries, making 25 Premier League appearances in his first season, but making no more than 13 in the six years that followed.

In a message on social media, Bailly wrote: ‘As I leave this club after many years of incredible memories, outstanding teammates, and trophies, I want to express my profound gratitude.

‘This chapter may be closing, but the friendships and memories will forever remain in my heart. The fans here are the real champions. Thank you for everything, forever United.’

Bailly made 113 appearances for United in all competitions, scoring his one and only goal in a match with Swansea back in 2017.

His last competitive appearance for United came in a 3-1 win over Burnley back in December 2021.

Bailly won the Europa League, Carabao Cup and Community Shield during his time at Old Trafford.

He is the second United player to move to Turkey this summer, after Fenerbahce signed Brazilian midfielder Fred in a £13m deal last month.

The defender has previously had interest from the likes of Fulham and Marseille, but failed to agree on terms with both clubs.

United have made a defensive signing of their own this summer, bringing back Jonny Evans on a one-year deal.
