Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United have overcome their rocky start to the season, but has warned his players not to become complacent in a Premier League where ‘everyone kills everyone’.

United’s win over Chelsea in midweek put them just three points behind reigning champions Manchester City despite a turbulent few months at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag feels his team have weathered their injury problems and some setbacks with refereeing decisions, but has warned there can be no let-up as they prepare to face Bournemouth at home on Saturday.

‘Things went against us with injuries and decisions, and sometimes you find yourselves in such a place.

‘You see the character of the team. We’re in a better place and on better form. The performances are increasing and we are performing as a team and as individuals.

‘You have to be sharp in every game. This league is very competitive and you see it in results this week. Everyone kills everyone.

‘Bournemouth, they are also in very good form. We have seen them, a very good side. They have capable players. You have to play your best, everyone is killing everyone.’

Asked if his team selection for Saturday might be influenced by Tuesday’s decisive Champions League group game against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford, Ten Hag added: ‘As a manager, my coaches and rest of the staff, we take everything into account,’ he said.

‘But the next game is the more important, especially in the Premier League.’
