Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted his concern towards the latest injury picked up by centre-back Lisandro Martinez in Sunday’s 3-0 win over West Ham United.

Martinez has already missed most of the season with a foot injury and was making just his tenth appearance of the campaign when he went down with a knee injury shortly after the hour mark on Sunday.

He would force himself to continue, only to accept defeat five minutes later and limp off the field.

“It doesn’t look good,” Ten Hag said after the game.

“It seems bad, we have to wait and make the right diagnosis. In this moment we are very sad, hopefully it is not too bad but we can only pray. It looks like he has to sit some games out injured again.”

Amid the frustration of the injury, Ten Hag was keen to praise goalscorers Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho, as well as youngster Kobbie Mainoo for his role in the United’s recent resurgence.

“The future for Manchester United is very good because we have high potentials,” he said. “I think that picture [of the trio celebrating] covers the lot, how they are together and want to play football with adventure and enjoyment. If we keep this process going I am sure we will achieve high levels.

“We are building a team, we signed young players and give them opportunities. This is a process with ups and downs and we have to realise this. Our experienced players will help them and we need them and they will help the young players perform.”

The victory sees United leapfrog West Ham into sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind fifth-placed Tottenham.
