Erling Haaland has broken the Premier League record for goals in a 38-game season after scoring in Man City’s win over Arsenal on Wednesday.
The Norwegian has been in sensational form throughout his debut season in England and has been chasing the goalscoring record set by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian forward had held the record since 2017-18, when he scored 32 goals throughout the Reds’ Premier League campaign, before Haaland’s arrival.
The former Borussia Dortmund striker levelled Salah’s tally during Man City’s 3-1 win over Leicester this month, before overtaking him with his late goal against the Gunners.
However, he’s still not the highest single-season goalscorer in the league’s history, after Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both nabbed 34 goals in 1993-94 and 1994-95 respectively.

Liverpool’s Mo Salah previously held the record of 32 goals scored in the 2017-18 season
However, these were achievements were met when the Premier League season was four games longer, owing to 22 top-flight clubs.
It means that Cole and Shearer have an unfair advantage on Haaland, in regard to the amount of matches that they can achieve the goalscoring record in.

Despite this, the Norwegian remain on track to surpass both of them given the fact City still have six top-flight matches remaining.
The 22-year-old has been prolific in all aspects for Pep Guardiola’s side, having notched a total of 49 goals in all competitions this season.
On top of his impressive tally in the Premier League, the Norwegian also has 12 goals in eight appearances in the Champions League, three in three in the FA Cup and one goal in two Carabao Cup outings.
Perhaps his most impressive display came during City’s 7-0 demolition of RB Leipzig earlier in their Champions League campaign, where he managed to score five goals.
He became just the second player in the competition’s history, after Lionel Messi, to achieve the accolade.

Haaland has been prolific both in domestic competitions and in Europe for Man City this year
The Norwegian forward joined Manchester City from Dortmund for £51million in the summer transfer window.
He immediately hit the ground running and bagged a brace on Premier League debut, as City cruised to a 2-0 victory over West Ham.
He’s gone to record four hat-tricks in that time during City’s wins against Crystal Palace, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.
On top of his efficiency in-front of goal, the Norwegian international has also managed to contribute six assists to his City team-mates this season.
