Adam Peaty’s brother, James, has been taken into custody over accusations of issuing threats against the renowned athlete during his stag party.
The 34-year-old James Peaty was detained and interrogated by law enforcement for two days before being granted conditional bail. The incident allegedly occurred while Adam, aged 30, was celebrating his stag weekend in Budapest, Hungary, and involved a series of verbal threats.
Amidst the controversy, it has come to light that Adam’s mother, Caroline, 59, has been disinvited from his upcoming Christmas wedding to Holly Ramsay, 25. This decision follows a family dispute, with Adam being labeled a ‘narcissist’ by his relatives.
An insider disclosed that alarming threats of violence have been directed at both Holly and Adam, leading to police intervention.
Following James’s release, which is subject to further investigation, a family source shared with The Daily Mail, “This has been an incredibly difficult period for our family.”

“Jamie has been left distraught by his arrest. He wouldn’t hurt a fly and is currently receiving psychological support for ADHD and severe depression,” the source added.
‘He lost a child which broke his heart and his wife Charlotte.
‘He had asked Adam to attend the funeral for some moral and emotional support but his brother let him down, saying he had a social to attend as Holly had invited him to a friend’s wedding, and insisted they had to be there.
‘It seems that fired a rift between the two brothers which has escalated into a full family row.’
James from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, was arrested by his local force after world champion swimmer Adam from Kegworth, Leicestershire, alerted police.
The family source suggested that Holly’s sister Megan had advised Adam to take precautionary measures after he allegedly felt threatened by verbal threats.
The star was reportedly granted a huge police escort at Manchester airport on Sunday night after flying back home from his stag do.
The source added: ‘James was arrested two days later and taken into custody without having any of his meds (medication) with him.

‘They’ve always got on, but Adam has changed with his new celebrity lifestyle and family.
‘Now James has a potential charge hanging over his head and his parents have the headache of being disinvited and banned from their son’s wedding.
‘This is so hurtful and distressing for our family.’
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police told the Daily Mail: ‘We arrested a 34-year-old man, from the Uttoxeter area, on 11 November 2025, on suspicion of harassment.
‘The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.’
Whilst James has not been charged, the family source said it was a ‘desperately worrying time, amid the high profile public dispute.’
His father Mark reportedly said: ‘They’re brothers. They’ve always been close but like any normal family, brothers fight, argue, fall out, make-up and start all over again. But it’s got out of hand.
‘There’s been very little empathy towards Jamie’s genuine mental health difficulties.’
Adam had allegedly received a barrage of ‘increasingly threatening’ texts and feared a physical assault on his return to the UK.
The Olympian reportedly had to be escorted from a plane by armed police on Sunday after receiving threats on his stag do.
He is said to have been met by five uniformed police officers who flanked him through immigration and baggage reclaim, after the aircraft touched down at Manchester Airport.
They said CCTV was also monitored by authorities for suspicious activity and Adam was escorted from the building into a waiting vehicle.
The police presence came following fears he could be assaulted as shaken Adam initially contacted his fiancée Holly, who then alerted police.

‘Things escalated over the weekend when someone became increasingly abusive and threatening over text. Adam was trying to enjoy his stag do and was getting freaked out by it all.
‘He then received a threat that he’d be met off the plane. He told Holly who called the cops after consulting with her family.’
The friend added that Holly’s parents, chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana have been ‘100 per cent supportive’ of them.

However a source close to Adam and Holly said: ‘This feud is heart-breaking from both sides.
‘But the reality is that Adam sees his mum Caroline to be enabling his brother’s actions rather than pushing him to deal with his demons. Poor Caroline must feel utterly torn and it’s just very hard for everyone.
It’s understood the brothers have not been on speaking terms since June. James had been asked to be a groomsman at Adam and Holly’s wedding, but was not invited on the stag-do following the recent row.
A source has said that James was upset about Adam’s comments about him in his 2021 book The Gladiator Mindset, where he wrote about James having demons. Tensions are thought to have escalated at Adam and Holly’s engagement party.

The family source said it was believed that the only member of Adam’s family now due to attend the wedding was his sister Bethany, with nobody else being able to afford the hotel costs.
Bethany was the only member of his family at Holly’s hen celebration at Soho Farmhouse, set in 100 acres of the Oxfordshire countryside.
The claims of violence come after Adam’s family accused his camp of ‘body-shaming’ his mother Caroline.
They also insisted he isn’t following his Christian beliefs by shunning his family from their wedding celebrations and accused Adam of sending his mother outfit options because they ‘didn’t approve of her choices’.
The tirade of comments from Adam’s side of the family come after a source close to the situation explained why they were no longer invited to the nuptials.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Katie Hind, they said: ‘You only have to look at the picture to see that there is a certain ‘type’, says one person familiar with the party.
‘They all look the same and you wonder if Caroline might have stuck out a bit. She’s a normal woman, not a celebrity. You look at Holly’s Instagram and it’s all so planned, so super-glam and very, very showy. That’s not Caroline.’

In the hours after the comments were revealed, Adam’s family reacted to the reports on social media as they accused the person who made them of body shaming.
The day before, Adam’s aunt Louise had weighed into the feud, and said of her sister: ‘She’s not ok at all. Holly and Adam have broken my darling sister.’
She claimed Adam is ‘ashamed’ of his brothers and then bizarrely shared pictures of Holly at the hen do on her Threads account.
Adam’s family branded him a ‘narcissist’ and claimed he has been ‘changed’ by money and ‘forgotten where he came from’.
Another source told the publication while his family were originally supportive of his engagement to Holly, they feel ‘they have been pushed further and further from Adam over the past year’.

They said: ‘It seems to some of the family that Adam is more at home with Holly and her folks, while his family has been left behind.
‘Caroline is devoted to her grandson George and will move heaven and earth to care for him.
‘As tensions have risen, there have been rows and Caroline has always toed the line because she wants to be a part of her grandson’s life.’
Shocked family members have spoken out against Adam, with Caroline’s sister saying: ‘he’s said the most vile things a son can say to his mother.’

Social media has erupted with anger from Adam’s family, after Caroline shared posts voicing her heartache, leading to her sister Louise Williams, who uses the Instagram handle @Loobylou, and their Aunty Jan weighing in on the ‘s**t show’.
When Holly failed to invite Caroline, who helped steer Adam to Olympic glory, to the party, she was left languishing at home in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, looking after her five-year-old grandson George – Adam’s child with ex-girlfriend Eirianedd Munro.
Caroline took to Instagram on Monday to share a cryptic image reading: ‘When you love someone, you protect them from the pain, you don’t become the cause of it.’
She captioned the post with: ‘The ones I love are the people who hurt me the most.’
The post was soon flooded with comments and likes from the Peaty family, including Aunty Louise detailing the apparent reasons why there was a hen do snub as well as comments about Adam’s brothers and their mental health problems.
She wrote: ‘They banned her because she would not apologise re the cancellation of the Bath trip because of the train cancellation and Caroline’s refusal to turn her back on her son’s, his brothers who both suffer from adhd and mental health problems and whom Adam considers to be an embarrassment…
‘However it was ok for Adam to make money off his brothers problems in his book. Can I ask I don’t know if you are a mum but would you turn your back on two sons who needed you to remain in favour with a celebrity?’
Her reference to a trip to Bath comes after it was revealed that his parents were invited to the wedding, along with other family members, and Caroline excitedly bought a dress.
But, according to the source, the star and his fiancée didn’t like the ensemble so offered to buy her a different one of their choice. The Peatys had been gifted train travel and accommodation to visit Bath to go shopping, which they accepted.
The planned trip never happened because services going south were either delayed or cancelled due to multiple stabbings on a train in Huntingdon two weeks ago.
The source said: ‘Caroline and Mark couldn’t make the journey and instead of rearranging it, Adam went mad they had missed it and moaned they had wasted his money and he wouldn’t be able to get a refund…
‘For goodness sake, he’s a multi-millionaire. It’s all so sad, not one really knows what goes on behind closed doors. Adam doesn’t really want or need his family anymore. It is heartbreaking to see this once normal, close-knit family fall apart.’
Louise’s tirade did not stop there, as she launched into another defence of her sister, who she insisted had ‘a heart bigger than China’.
The previous day, Louise blasted Holly over the snub to her future mother-in-law who had ‘opened her home and heart to you’, saying it had inflicted ‘a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever’.
Her post stated: ‘@hollyramsayy I’m so glad that you had a great hen do. As a bride, you deserve that. However, as a person you were divisive and hurtful towards a woman, who I have loved and continue to love deeply.
‘A woman who opened her home and heart to you. You decided, for whatever reason, not to invite her, your prospective mother-in-law to your hen night yet Adam invited his father-in-law, your dad, to his stag night.
‘You invited your mum (quite rightly) and even your mum’s assistant, your sisters, your friends, my niece, but not my sister, your future mother-in-law.
‘I have also seen messages passing between her and Adam about this and other matters and, quite frankly, I expected better of you and definitely of Adam. You have inflicted a hurt on my sister that will take a very long time to heal if ever.’

The post is said to have deeply upset Holly and world champion swimmer Adam who have been dating for more than two years.
A source close to the Peaty family revealed that the swimmer had left his mother ‘heartbroken’ after her sister’s post by contacting her to ban her from the wedding and to tell her she would not see his son George or any future grandchildren again.
In another message to his mother, seen by the Daily Mail, Adam stated his intention to disown his family, despite them having supported him throughout his career.
Caroline waded into the incredible row by expressing her distress in an Instagram post which stated: ‘Crying is a way your eyes speak when your mouth can’t explain how broken your heart is.’
Her post attracted messages of support and concern from friends including one who commented: ‘Don’t let them drag you down Caroline.’
