Tiger Woods' daughter's heartbreaking comments on 2021 crash resurface after latest DUI arrest

On Friday, Tiger Woods found himself in another serious car crash, a sobering reminder of the terrifying accident his daughter once called one of the most frightening experiences of their lives, which happened five years ago.

The iconic golfer, now 50, faced arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) after attempting to speed past a truck and trailer on a residential road in Jupiter Island. The high-speed maneuver resulted in a collision, causing his SUV to flip onto its side.

After managing to escape through the passenger-side window, Woods declined to provide a urine sample to law enforcement. Consequently, he was charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to comply with a legal test. He was taken into custody around 3 p.m., had his mugshot taken, and was released later that evening around 11 p.m.

In the aftermath of this incident, remarks from Woods’ daughter, Sam, have re-emerged. Her reflections on the challenging period five years ago have captured renewed attention.

“About a year ago, you were confined to a hospital bed, facing one of your lowest points during one of the most terrifying times for you and us,” Sam Woods, who was then 14, recalled during her father’s 2022 induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

She continued, “We were uncertain if you would return home with both legs. Now, not only are you being honored in the Hall of Fame, but you stand here on your own two feet.”

Sam, who is now 18 years old, went on to express her admiration for what her legendary father achieved in the sport.

‘This is why you deserve this, because you’re a fighter,’ she continued in 2022. ‘You’ve defied the odds every time. Being the first Black and Asian golfer to win a Major, being able to win your fifth Masters after multiple back surgeries, and being able to walk just a few months after your crash.’

Woods will now need to bounce back once again following his latest accident in Jupiter on Friday.

Cops released his remarkable mugshot to the public shortly after 10pm, with his eyes puffy and bloodshot in the image. An hour later, he was bonded out and driven away from the jail, as fans and reporters swarmed the car for a glimpse of him.

In photos taken by a Daily Mail photographer, he can be seen looking stony-faced with his lips pursed, before momentarily glancing out of the passenger side window at the gathered masses before disappearing into the night.

At the scene of the accident, Woods passed a breathalyzer test after showing ‘triple zeros’, but then refused to give a urine sample twice, once on the roadside and then again at the jail.

‘He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, so he was careful in what he said and didn’t say,’ Sheriff Budensiek explained. ‘When it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.

‘On scene, we had [Drug Recognition] experts evaluating him and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired with alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug. And again, at the jail he cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine [test] he wanted no part in.

‘He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.’
