Matildas star Steph Catley may be one of Australia’s most recognisable faces following her heroics at the Women’s World Cup, but she’s still very much a ‘St Albans local’ when on club duty with Arsenal.

Football fans were left perplexed on Tuesday when Catley, who deputised for the injured Sam Kerr as captain of the national team during their campaign earlier this year, appeared on British morning TV show Lorraine.

Catley, 29, was interviewed as a ‘St Albans local’ by unsuspecting presenter Scarlett Douglas as part of the show’s promotion of a £100,000 competition for viewers.

Asked what she would do with the huge cash prize, Catley said: ‘I just got engaged recently so I’d save it up for the wedding for sure, because that’s a lot more expensive than I thought.’
