Inter Miami are set to sign Boca Juniors defender Marcelo Weigandt on loan, according to multiple reports out of Argentina.

Weigandt, 24, will reportedly sign a new contract with Boca until 2027 before being loaned out to Miami for two years (one report from journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claimed that the loan will be for one year initially with an option for a second).

The loan move for the Argentina U20 international will reportedly have no fee attached.

The Herons also signed defensive midfielder Federico Redondo from Argentinos Juniors last month.

Miami have allowed four goals through four MLS games thus far, but have scored 10 and collected seven points, putting them atop the Eastern Conference.

However, the club is expected to be without Lionel Messi this weekend for its trip to DC United on Saturday.

The Argentine star came off injured during Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup win over Nashville on Wednesday.

And after the match, Miami coach Tata Martino confirmed Messi was feeling discomfort in his right hamstring area.

‘He is overloaded in the right posterior,’ Martino said. ‘We don’t want to run a risk. We tried to see if he could go for a little longer, but it was bothering him, so we preferred for him to just get out of the game.’

On Saturday’s game in Washington, Martino added: ‘I don’t want to risk it, but I imagine that for Saturday’s game, he is not going to be available.
