Nearly a decade has passed, but the Melbourne Cup may have just delivered another unforgettable moment to rival the iconic appearances of Australia’s ‘Wheelie Bin’ and ‘Fairy Floss’ girls.
Back in 2016, Jade Jillings and Karly Tsivoglou shot to fame after being caught on camera during the race that captivates the nation. Now, a new video featuring a woman attempting to scale the statue of the legendary horse Makybe Diva at Flemington is poised to follow suit.
Jillings earned the nickname ‘Wheelie Bin Girl’ after she humorously mounted a bin, mimicking a jockey on a racehorse, before tumbling into a garden alongside her friend.
Currently, an unidentified woman has been filmed trying to ascend the Makybe Diva statue, only to be promptly reprimanded by police this past Tuesday.
Onlookers at Flemington watched in amusement as the woman leaped over a floral display encircling the bronze statue of Makybe Diva, crafted by former jockey Philip Blacker to honor the horse’s trio of Melbourne Cup victories.
A racegoer has gone viral after she attempted to climb an iconic statue at Flemington during this year’s Melbourne Cup
The punter, who was wearing a pink dress, looked to climb on top of the bronze tribute to three-time Cup winner Makybe Diva
A crowd of patrons stood around and watched the woman, who attempted to climb the brass figure of the horse by grabbing its tail
The woman, clad in a pink dress and barefoot, was seen attempting to climb onto the back of the famed horse statue.
She rested her knee on the horse’s tail as she tried to get a leg up onto its back, in an apparent attempt to ride the horse.
However, the stunt came to an early end, with a police officer arriving at the scene before she was seen ordering the woman to get down.
The unnamed individual obliged, stepping down off the statue before she and the police officer walked out of shot.
It is unclear where they went or what happened after the clip was taken.
Jamie Melham would go on to make history at this year’s Melbourne Cup being crowned only the second female jockey to win the great race.
And in the build-up to events this week at Flemington, a dramatic new update has been revealed by racing’s famous ‘Fairy Floss Girl’, who went viral in 2016.
At the time, she had been freelancing as a makeup artist and would later go on to become a mother, but had fallen on tough times after she made a series of court appearances for a dishonesty matter.
But before she could climb onto the horse’s back, a police officer arrived at the scene and asked the woman to get down
The mystery woman was later escorted away from the scene
Daily Mail photographed ‘Fairy Floss Girl’ Karly Tsivoglou (above) eating fairy floss at Flemington’s Ladies Day in 2016, turning her into an instant celebrity
Tsivoglou (pictured) fell on hard times afterwards and appeared in court, but she has just launched a new business
She faced Moorabbin Magistrates Court in 2023, and had admitted to one count of handling stolen goods and five counts of obtaining property by deception and one charge of theft.
The court had heard that she admitted to the crimes through the court’s diversion program. That is a designated scheme that is offered to first-time offenders.
Tsivoglou was released on a 12-month bond on the condition she provided an apology to the court but failed to do so.
She was charged with breaching the order.
However, Tsivoglou would leave court without a conviction.
The 26-year-old has now, though, spun things around, and has become a business owner, under the name Dealz4Realz.
The function of the business is still not yet clear.
Speaking on being photographed at the Melbourne Cup with a cloud of floss hanging out of her mouth, she explained that she had ‘had a few glasses of champagne, put a few bets on and just enjoyed the sun.’ She had no idea of her internet stardom until the following day.
Jade Jillings (left) made headlines around the world when she decided to ride a wheelie bin as if it was a horse, while her housemate Tyler Johnson and a security guard watched in 2016
In the years since her brush with fame, Jillings has used social media to show off her great love of animals
‘I woke up this morning with so many messages and screenshots of the photos! I was honestly shocked!’ Tsivoglou said at the time.
‘My social media accounts have been going crazy all morning!’
Jillings, who made headlines when she attempted to ride a wheelie bin like a horse at the Melbourne Cup, would go on to pursue a career as a horse trainer.
Back in 2023, the Kiwi told Nova that free champagne on the day had contributed to the ride, adding that she and her friends were ‘just having a laugh’.
While she said she was embarrassed by the photos, she joked she was having a ‘wheelie good time.’
