‘Make it happen’ – Jack Grealish told to take a pay cut to revive career with new Premier League club

Everton may not have had the most enjoyable time in recent seasons, but it’s still far too good an opportunity for Jack Grealish to turn down.

According to several talkSPORT analysts who know the player well, they believe that the Hill Dickinson Stadium could be an ideal setting to revive his playing career.

It has come to our attention that Everton is interested in securing a loan deal for the former £100 million player, who saw reduced playing time at Manchester City last season.

Grealish has since given his approval to the move, with talks continuing.

However, things aren’t exactly simple, with Pep Guardiola’s side wanting the entirety of the 29-year-old’s massive £300,000 per-week wages covered.

That could well be a stumbling block, but Tony Cascarino thinks Grealish should do whatever he can to make it work.

“How would he not be excited by having two clubs like Tottenham and Everton being interested in taking him?” the talkSPORT host said.

“I don’t know how it would work with his wages, whether he could take some sort of cut.

“He could certainly push for it and try and make it happen, and if he loses a bit of salary, so what?”

From a player’s point of view, a former Chelsea and Ireland striker commented: “He’s transitioned from being a key player to a secondary role, and that’s got to be difficult for him.

“He’ll likely reflect and consider, ‘I signed with a substantial transfer fee, celebrated multiple victories, yet now I’m uncertain about my playing time.'”

Everton have spent the past four seasons in relegation battles, but there is certainly hope a corner has been turned under the returning David Moyes.

With the Scots’ return in January, the Toffees saw significant improvement. Additionally, there’s excitement surrounding the club’s move to the new 52,000-seat Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Cascarino continued: “He has no option, he has to go and play and play football.

“Originally, it was going to be Tottenham’s stadium, which is impressive and motivating. I believe Everton’s new stadium could provide the same inspiration for him.”

“If you look at Thomas Frank and David Moyes they’re managers who get more out of players and turn their careers around and if it was a viable option I think it would be a great move to go to Everton.

“David Moyes admitted himself he didn’t want another relegation battle and the [Kiernan] Dewsbury-Hall signing is another one of intent of signing another exciting player who’s technically superb.

“If David Moyes has got this new idea I would see it as a golden opportunity, it’s a great club.”

Cascarino isn’t the only one who sees a perfect fit, with Grealish’s former Aston Villa teammate and good friend Gabby Agbonlahor offering the same advice.

The talkSPORT host said: “He should look at it and think it’s a World Cup year, can I go on loan to a team where they’re going to play to my strengths?

“Is David Moyes going to create a squad of players where he can play in the No.10 or on the left and enjoy his football and get goals and assists.

“At the end of the year he’ll have a year left at Manchester City and it might open the door to a bigger move.”

Everton legend Alan Stubbs was also in agreement, speaking to talkSPORT after a chance meeting with Grealish while on holiday.

“I think he needs to be loved again and start enjoying his football,” the former defender said.

“He’s not been the same Grealish we saw at Villa where he had a freedom to go and be himself and I think Moyes would give him that.”
