Jake Paul begins search for Gervonta Davis replacement with fight in limbo amid domestic violence lawsuit

Jake Paul is actively seeking a new challenger after reports surfaced that Gervonta Davis allegedly assaulted a woman at a Miami strip club. This incident has put Davis, a world lightweight champion, back in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Davis was originally set to face Paul in an unusual 195-pound exhibition match on November 14. However, this recent accusation of domestic violence comes just three months after a previous battery charge was dismissed, which involved a former girlfriend.

Just two weeks before the exhibition, Davis is now dealing with a lawsuit filed by Courtney Rossel, another former partner. Rossel claims that Davis assaulted her while she was working as a VIP cocktail waitress at the club.

Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia, who faced defeat against Davis in 2023, has been considered to replace him. Yet, Oscar de la Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, has already dismissed this possibility.

On Saturday, Paul’s promotional team issued a statement: “Most Valuable Promotions promptly began an investigation following the civil lawsuit against Gervonta Davis filed in Miami-Dade County on October 30, 2025.”

The statement continued, “We are currently collecting information and scrutinizing the details to ensure our decisions are well-informed. We firmly oppose any form of violence and are dedicated to addressing this situation with thoroughness and respect for all parties involved.”

‘We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties. Until then, we will not be commenting further.’

As well as Garcia, it is believed MVP are also considering approaches for ex-heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Terence Crawford, who recently defeated Canelo Alvarez to become undisputed at super-middleweight.

In the lawsuit filed by Rossel, Davis has been accused of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The filing claims he entered Tootsies – the club where she works in Miami – early Monday morning and assaulted her in a private area without surveillance.

Davis allegedly continued the attack as he forced her through several back areas of the building and into the parking garage.

Rossel states they were in a five-month relationship and that the incident followed multiple episodes of alleged abuse. The complaint details at least four previous altercations, including two in which Davis allegedly threatened to kill her.

One confrontation reportedly occurred on September 2, after Rossel failed to respond to messages from the boxer. Another took place on September 23, when Davis allegedly accused her of infidelity, sent a text threatening to kill her, and then assaulted her at a restaurant on Lincoln Road.

Following this week’s alleged attack, Davis is said to have texted Rossel that he was ‘on [his] way’ to her home, which she interpreted as a continued threat.

Attorney Jeffery Chukwuma, representing Rossel, confirmed that a report was also filed with the Miami Gardens Police Department. Police have not commented publicly on the matter.

The lawsuit says she is now undergoing therapy for post-traumatic stress and anxiety and is living with others out of fear for her safety. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages and has requested a jury trial.

Davis’ promoters, Premier Boxing Champions, declined to comment when approached by the Daily Mail. The last attorney on record for Davis has also been approached.
