Jamie Carragher claimed Micah Richards’ last appearance on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football ‘didn’t go well’, because the former Manchester City player got stuck in the toilet.

The two pundits were working alongside each other, ex-Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and host Kate Abdo for the CBS Sports coverage of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

It came just 24 hours after Carragher had worked with Henry on Sky’s MNF coverage of Sheffield United versus Arsenal, which the visitors won 6-0.

The former Liverpool man stressed that Monday Night Football’s coverage was ‘award-winning’, but Richards said that he worked Sundays, which has a ‘bigger audience’.

Carragher told CBS presenter Abdo: ‘It’s a different type of show, Kate.’

He was pressed to explain the comment, and after bursting out with laughter alongside Henry and Richards, the 46-year-old said: ‘It’s a more tactical look at the game, shall we say? A bit more technical.’ 

Stressing towards Richards, Carragher continued. ‘This guy is perfect for this show. Monday Night Football, what do you think?’

Richards responded: ‘When I got stuck in the toilet?’ which triggered more laughter from Carragher and the rest of the team.

In Tuesday’s Champions League action, the first two teams sealed their places in the quarter-finals, with Kylian Mbappe striking twice to seal PSG’s progression over Real Sociedad, and Harry Kane starring in Bayern’s turnaround after losing the first leg to Lazio.
