LaLiga president Javier Tebas has appeared to furiously launch a war of words against Real Madrid president Florentino Perez on his social media.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was revealed that Spain’s Administrative Sports Court (TAD) had opened disciplinary proceedings against the 61-year-old.

The case relates to a complaint that has been lodged by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez regarding a £1.68billion (€2bn) deal with private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.

Perez, meanwhile, had argued that his team were put at a disadvantage by LaLiga during the negotiations with CVC. According to reports, per ESPN, Madrid ‘accused tebas of an abuse of his powers and a lack of transparency in calling and managing the assembly, where the CVC agreement was discussed.’

The LaLiga president was allegedly supposed to give clubs 10 day’s notice prior to calling the meeting – but according to reports the president gave them only eight.

Tebas, who has been in his role as LaLiga president since 2013, could now face a suspension, according to Marca.

But he has defiantly spoken out against the court case, stating in a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account: ‘All those who think that the president Javier Tebas is going to be disqualified, keep sitting and waiting because that is not going to be the case.’

Real Madrid had previously lost a legal battle against Tebas and LaLiga in 2023 over their claims that the distribution of television money through the new CVC deal was ‘illegal’.

‘I will not be removed from office,’ he added.

‘There is a long road ahead. A case has been opened and I aim to win it definitively throughout the various stages. As I’ve been saying it is clear that the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, cannot convince the clubs in Spain or Europe, is trying to find other ways to try to get rid of the democratically elected president of LaLiga. Which in this case is me.’

The Spaniard then went on to state that he felt he was backed by a large proportion of clubs in LaLiga, before addressing the complaints made against him.

‘I have to highlight that in the time that has past, I have the support of the vast majority of the clubs that make up our league, to whom I thank the support they are giving me because it serves as encouragement when facing these situations, and it is not the first time I have had to face them. We will get through it, as we have done with issues we’ve had to face before.’

The LaLiga president, who has previously worked as an advisor and president at several top Spanish clubs , also captioned the video with a long statement and appeared to make reference to Perez and Real Madrid in the caption.

‘It seems that someone does not accept that their Super League has been unanimously rejected by all of world football and that CVC’s project with LaLiga was ratified with all the guarantees by an overwhelming majority of 39 of 42 clubs and ratified by the courts,’ he wrote.

‘It seems that someone, an expert in political mamonism, has to activate desperate means to try to impose his particular way of seeing football.

‘Well, make no mistake, we will continue working and we will continue defending ourselves with all the forcefulness.’

Tebas subsequently addressed the compliants over the CVC meeting on August 12, 2021, outlining why clubs were given eight days instead of ten prior to the CVC assembly.

‘Regarding the meeting of August 12, it should be noted that a disciplinary file is being opened because it was called urgently because it was called eight days in advance and the urgency was not justified… And not with ten days, which would not have been necessary to justify.

‘A question of form. But in addition, at the bottom of that meeting, in the end the CVC agreement was not discussed as planned, but was left in suspense because it was decided that Athletic, Real Madrid and Barcelona would not be accepted due to the expenses that the CVC operation could entail in the joint accounts.

‘That agreement was carried over to December, when it was approved. An agreement that Real Madrid also challenged again and lost in court, and which has been ratified by the same courts.’
