New York Jets fans in meltdown over struggling coach Aaron Glenn's quarterback decision against Bengals

New York Jets fans took to social media with fervent reactions following the announcement that Justin Fields will be the starting quarterback against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.

This decision comes on the heels of backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor being sidelined due to a knee injury, leaving Fields as the team’s sole option amid their current struggles.

With the Jets grappling with an 0-7 record and persistent offensive woes, supporters have voiced their dissatisfaction online, targeting both Fields and head coach Aaron Glenn.

One fan remarked, “This is essentially Justin Fields’ last chance. If tomorrow doesn’t go well, he might be cut during the bye week. It’s going to be an intriguing game!”

Another fan brought team owner Woody Johnson into the discussion, commenting, “Fields has never been a good QB. He’s benched, and Woody throws him under the bus, yet now they have to turn to him again due to injury. You can’t make this stuff up. Just end the season.”

‘He gets benched and Woody throws him under the bus but now you immediately have to go back to him due to injury. Can’t make this stuff up. Just End The Season’.

The move ends a week of speculation over who would start, with Glenn refusing to name his quarterback during media availability. It remains unclear if Taylor would have been chosen had he been healthy.

Fields was benched at halftime during last week’s loss to the Panthers, continuing a stretch in which the Jets have gone eight quarters without scoring a touchdown.

Their last trip to the end zone came three weeks ago in a 37-22 defeat to the Cowboys.

Owner Woody Johnson added to the controversy earlier in the week when he publicly defended Glenn and, instead, criticized Fields and the state of the offense.

When quizzed about his head coach at the NFL’s Fall League Meeting in New York, the 78-year-old told reporters: ‘It looks like he’s [Glenn] turning around parts of it, [but] it’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got. He has the ability but something is just not giving.

‘If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you’re gonna see similar results across the league. You have to play consistently at that position, and that’s what we’re gonna try to do for the remainder of the season.

‘I think defense and special teams are doing better, the defense is pretty good. If we could just complete a pass, it would look good,’ Johnson continued in another shot at Fields. ‘You’ve got to convince them that you can do something, or it’s hard to have a game that you can win.’

As previously reported, Fields said he was unaware of Johnson’s comments when he met the media the following day but insisted the remarks didn’t bother him.

‘Everybody knows I need to play better, we need to play better as a team,’ he said. ‘And of course, no matter how the offense does as a unit, I’m going to get the blame and I understand that. That’s just what comes with the job.

‘Honestly, it’s what comes with it, so you can’t let anything affect your mind, my mind. That is what it is. No matter if it’s him, no matter if it’s family members, or even teammates sometimes. There’s going to be times where you have to be the only one who believes in yourself.

‘Like I said, that’s his opinion, and like I told you guys after the game on Sunday, I’m at peace and all my focus right now is working each and every day and getting better.’

Glenn also defended Johnson’s right to voice his frustrations but insisted he alone would determine who starts.

‘[Woody] trusts me to make that decision,’ Glenn said. ‘He has every right to his comment… We have to get better, we do. But I don’t think there’s anywhere in that comment where he said he doesn’t like Justin.’

The Jets will face the Bengals (3-4) at Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they continue to search for their first win of the season.
