Former West Ham star Joe Cole has hailed Mohammed Kudus after the summer signing scored his first goal for the club in their 3-1 Europa League win over Backa Topola.

Kudus was handed his first start since joining the Hammers in a £38m summer move from Dutch giants Ajax.

The Ghanaian international played a key role in West Ham’s equaliser on the night, after Petar Stanic gave the Serbian visitors a shock lead.

Kudus completed the turnaround four minutes later when he headed in a James Ward-Prowse corner.

Thomas Soucek sealed the 3-1 win from another set-piece in the final minutes.

Cole, speaking on TNT Sports, praised the performance of Kudus and believes the forward will be another important addition to David Moyes’ West Ham team.

‘He [Kudus] looked like he was happy and settled,’ Cole said.

‘He is another weapon for David Moyes

‘I look at this team and I see goals everywhere, it was a great night for West Ham.’

Kudus’s first goal for West Ham takes him onto five goals in six games for the season, after netting five times for Ajax prior to his move to the London Stadium.

The 23-year-old has shown his pedigree in European competitions, scoring nine goals in 18 games across the Champions League and Europa League to date.

Kudus will now be pushing for a first start in the Premier League when West Ham travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday.
