Jose Mourinho has taken aim at Inter Milan fans for their treatment of Roma striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Portuguese’s side head to the San Siro this Sunday as they take on Inter in an extremely important match.

One player to look out for in particular will be Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku who joined Roma on a season-long loan from Chelsea after doing the same at Inter last season.

However, touching upon whether Inter fans will be hostile towards Romelu, he added: ‘I didn’t know he was so important in Milan, because what he did, winning the Scudetto, two cups, 200 players in Inter have won a super cup.

‘Afterwards it is interesting to understand why if Lukaku goes from Inter to Roma to help his coach it is a drama, while in the past [Fabio] Cannavaro went from Inter to Juve without problems. [Christian] Vieri no problem, Romelu at Roma is a surprise because I didn’t think he would be in the hearts of the Inter fans.’

The former Chelsea and Tottenham coach was sent off on the weekend in stoppage time for mocking Monza’s bench.

Moments after Stephan El Shaarawy scored a late winner for Roma, Mourinho turned to the opposition bench and taunted them with gestures suggesting they talk too much and cry too much.

He was swiftly shown a straight red card and he will now miss their match against his former club Milan.

Mourinho has also alluded to how he is unsure whether he will stay at Roma for the 2024-2025 season.

He said: ‘There is Anti-Mourinhism too. Especially in Rome, you can find both sides.

‘Anti-Mourinhism is followed by people who are happy when Roma don’t win and when Roma have no European success.’
