Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has taken the opportunity to watch his former club Mainz during the international break.

Klopp was in attendance at the MEWA Arena as Mainz took on MSV Duisburg in a friendly.

The 56-year-old was seen grinning as the Mainz fans unveiled a stunning tifo display before the game. 

In total he oversaw 270 matches, winning 109, drawing 78 and losing 83 before leaving to manage Borussia Dortmund.

In 2003-04 Klopp led to Mainz to a third-place finish in the second division as  they secured promotion to the Bundesliga. They were relegated at the end of the 2006-07 campaign. 

Klopp also spent the majority of his playing career at Mainz, representing the club between 1990 and 2001.

He scored 56 goals in 340 games for Mainz. 

Klopp, who is much better known for his managerial career, won two Bundesliga titles while at Dortmund and also lifted the DFB-Pokal.

Since being appointed as Liverpool boss in 2015, Klopp has won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup and the League Cup in addition to the Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield.

Last season was frustrating for Liverpool, who finished in fifth place in the league, but they will be determined to respond this campaign.
