In other news, Liverpool’s forward Lewis Koumas has caught the attention of Hull City, who are keen to bring him in on loan.

Additionally, former Manchester United defender Paddy McNair is expected to join Hull City on loan, coming from San Diego.

Koumas, who has followed his father Jason in becoming a Wales international, was recalled by Liverpool from his spell at Birmingham City on Monday. Swansea had also shown interest in Koumas.

The 20-year-old has picked up good experience at Championship level with over 70 appearances racked up during his spells at Stoke and now Birmingham. He has ambitions to go to the World Cup with Wales, should they win their play-off in March.

No wonder Villa want Luiz with midfield injury crisis

Aston Villa’s decision to accelerate a move for Douglas Luiz, which Daily Mail Sport trailed last week, is looking all the more imperative with a lengthening injury list.

Villa are assessing Youri Tielemans’ ankle, have John McGinn out for six weeks and Boubacar Kamara out for the season. Ross Barkley is edging towards fitness but there is a need for experience and bodies to maintain a title push.

Brazilian Luiz is on loan at Forest from Juventus, having moved to Italy in 2024 after five years at Villa Park. Chelsea enquired last week.

Villa sent a delegation to Milan to discuss a deal for Ruben Loftus-Cheek too last Wednesday – read more on that move below. They have other names under consideration also.
