Kalvin Phillips has completed his move to West Ham, joining on-loan from Manchester City.

talkSPORT has learned that the Hammers are set to pay a loan fee ranging from £5 million to £6 million and will also cover the entirety of the midfielder’s £160,000-a-week wages.

However, Phillips’ long-term future remains unresolved after the deal was completed without an option to buy in the summer.

The 28-year-old joined City in 2022 from boyhood club Leeds for £45million, but it has not worked out for him at the Etihad.

Throughout this season, Phillips has clocked in just 93 minutes of playing time in the Premier League. During his debut season, he featured in only 21 matches across all competitions, starting in just four of those contests.

Pep Guardiola has openly acknowledged that it might be an opportune moment for the midfielder to move on, as he has struggled to secure a spot in the starting XI, even during times when first-choice defensive midfielder Rodri has been unavailable.

Phillips will be delighted to be able to showcase himself at the London Stadium, with a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad at stake if he can impress Gareth Southgate.

“I’m really pleased to be here,” said the Yorkshireman, who will wear the No.11 shirt. “There’s always been a lot of speculation about me moving to West Ham, so I’m really excited to get going now.

“There’s so much to look forward to in the second half of the season for the Club and I can’t wait to be part of it.

“There’s an unbelievable group here and if I can come in and add the quality that I know I’m capable of, I’m sure we can give the West Ham fans plenty to be excited about between now and the end of the season.”

West Ham too will be happy, having lost star midfielder and captain Declan Rice to Arsenal for a club record £105m last summer.

They did bring in both James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, but will be delighted to have beaten off stiff competition for Phillips.

Darren Bent believes top 6 is the minimum for West Ham if they sign Emile Smith Rowe and Kalvin Philips

“We are really pleased to bring a player of Kalvin’s quality to West Ham United,” said manager David Moyes.

“We’ve been big admirers of him for a long time and we believe that he will add strength and competition to our squad.

“Kalvin is an England international midfielder, with proven Premier League experience. We’re excited to welcome him into the group and look forward to working with him.”

The midfielder was linked with moves to European giants Juventus and Barcelona, while Newcastle and Crystal Palace are also understood to have made an approach.
