After signing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from Tottenham this past offseason, LAFC general manager and co-president John Thorrington revealed that his team hopes to make another ‘big singing’.

Thorrington expressed his wishes on Offside With Taylor Twellman, and with two designated player spots open, the 2022 MLS Cup champions have high hopes for those vacancies.

‘I go into every window thinking it’s going to be a little bit less chaotic than it is. If you were to ask me with a crystal ball now, barring sales, I actually feel really good about our group,’ Thorrington shared. ‘And I would say, whether it’s now or in the summer, I think we’ll have a big signing, a significant signing – at least one more.

Although Thorrington did not mention any targets, the club has been heavily linked to Atletico Madrid and French national team forward Antoine Griezmann. Nottingham Forest and Belgian international striker Divok Origi was also rumored to be a target this past winter.

The Black and Gold’s pursuit of bigger stars comes as their cross-country counterparts in Inter Miami host a reunion of former Barcelona stars. After signing Lionel Messi in a blockbuster acquisition last summer, the Herons quickly added Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba to their roster.

This season, David Beckham and the Inter Miami front office also managed to add striker Luis Suarez to the mix.

While fans await the designated signings, LAFC has secured 18-year-old Venezuelan winger David Martinez. The club has also kept 2023 Golden Boot winner Dennis Bouanga after his 38-goal season.

Additionally, Thorrington raved about Lloris’ immediate impact on the team. Within two minutes of his MLS debut, the Frenchman made his first of six saves in a 2-1 win at home.

‘I can’t speak highly enough of the impact he’s already had on our players,’ Thorrington said of the 2018 World Cup winner. ‘Just watching this guy lead from his position, that’s a rare skill set.’

LAFC is currently 1-0 this season and will face Real Salt Lake on the road on March 2.
