Levi Colwill became Chelsea’s savior on the concluding day of the 2024/25 Premier League, netting the decisive goal in a 1-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest, which clinched a fourth-place finish and secured a cherished Champions League berth.

The good fortune continued for the England defender on Wednesday evening as Chelsea rebounded from an initial deficit to dominate Real Betis 4-1 in the Conference League final.

However, Colwill’s journey this season has not been without its hurdles. During the initial phase under coach Enzo Maresca, he faced difficulties with atypical mistakes and a setback in his confidence.

The previous year under Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t much easier. Colwill was frequently deployed out of position at left-back, a move that drew criticism and limited his impact.

So how did the 22-year-old centre-back manage to stay grounded during these difficult spells? According to Colwill, the answer is surprisingly simple: LEGO.

“It just takes your mind away from everything,” he told The Guardian. “Last season when I was struggling a bit I started doing it. I built the ‘Home Alone’ one with the movie on in the background and time just flies. It was around Christmas time, so I got myself in the spirit.”

Inspired by a TikTok video of a girl building sets, Colwill said the hobby made him feel like a kid again – free from stress and pressure.

“There’s no worries, there’s no problems,” he explained. “You feel relaxed and in your comfort zone. You’re not thinking about much more than that. When you put your mind to something you blank out everything else around you. That’s why I enjoy it so much.”

While many of his Chelsea teammates may be heading off to luxury resorts or footballer hotspots like Ocean Beach after their Conference League final exploits, Colwill has a different plan in mind: a trip to LEGOLAND.

“I’ll be there,” he said.
