Andy Robertson is understood to have avoided a significant ankle injury and is not expected to spend long on the sidelines while he recovers.

The Liverpool left-back, who suffered a nasty injury while away with Scotland during October that kept him sidelined for over three months, limped off while representing his country once again on Tuesday, resting his head in his hands after picking up an ankle injury.

Scans were quickly ordered to determine the severity of Robertson’s injury and, according to The Athletic, the results show no signs of any real damage.

With no bone or ligament damage detected, Robertson is now facing a matter of days on the sidelines, rather than weeks.

It seems unlikely that Robertson will be fit to face Brighton & Hove Albion on March 31 but there is now confidence that the left-back will be available for the visit of Sheffield United on April 4.

In Robertson’s absence, manager Jurgen Klopp could turn to natural deputy Kostas Tsimikas, or he may opt to continue rewarding the versatile Joe Gomez with a start out on the left.

On the opposite side of defence, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been stepping up his recovery from a knee injury but is not expected back in team training for over a week, with a return against Atalanta on April 11 seen as a possible return date.

Klopp revealed earlier this week that goalkeeper Alisson is around three weeks away from a return to action, with Portuguese forward Diogo Jota also working to a similar timeline.

Midfielder Curtis Jones is believed to be fit and available for the game against Brighton.
