Manchester United will face a reunion with Jose Mourinho and a visit from Rangers in the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag’s men will head to Turkey to play the Special One’s Fenerbahce, while the Glaswegians will travel to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Tottenham will journey to Ibrox, and will entertain Italian giants Roma. Ange Postecoglou’s men also have a trip to Istanbul, to face Galatasaray.

Mourinho managed United between 2016 and 2018. He won a Europa League, League Cup and second-placed finish before departing with the club 19 points off top spot.

‘He’s an outstanding coach and it’s always going to be a tough place to go,’ said United sporting director Dan Ashworth.

‘We know that team will be well coached. And we know that Rangers at home is going to be an interesting game for us as well.’

Ashworth welcomed the new format, which, like the Champions League, sees all 36 sides go into one league.

‘It adds something,’ he said. ‘No one quite knows what that’s going to look like but what seems to be good is that there is jeopardy in every game right until the end because it’s critical where you finish within that group.

‘I’m really, really excited and of course there’s a couple of fixtures in there that have some added spice.’

The top eight clubs in the league will progress directly to the Round of 16, while teams placing ninth to 24th will compete in the knockout play-offs. Victors in those games will gain a berth in the Round of 16.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have drawn Republic of Ireland side Shamrock Rovers as one of their six games in the first stage of the new-look Europa Conference League.

The west London side booked their place in the main draw of the competition after surviving a scare against Servette on Thursday, where they were beaten 2-1 in the second leg of their qualifying match, but would ultimately advance through, winning with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Chelsea begin their European campaign at home to Belgian side Gent, before playing away to Heidenheim and Astana.

They’ll then host Shamrock Rovers, before playing Panathinaikos and Noah.

The Italian coach, who is still looking to make a couple of signings before the summer transfer window shuts on Friday night, told club media that he was looking forward to his side being busy in multiple competitions.

‘It’s another competition and we’re going to try to do our best. I think tonight once again, the way we started, the team showed the team was there. But in the game we conceded, they had some chances and we lost a little bit of confidence,’ Maresca said following Thursday’s game against Servette.

Interestingly it is the first time Chelsea have ever met any of those teams in a competitive tournament.

‘But overall, even in the second half, I remember three times we were one-on-one with the keeper. So if we were able to take the chances, especially in the first half, and scored the second goal, the game would have been finished.

‘This is one more competition. We have the Conference League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and in all competitions we are going to try to do our best and then we will see where we are at.’

Scottish Premiership side, Hearts, who failed to qualify for the Europa League, were drawn away fixtures against Copenhagen, Cercle Brugge in Belgium and Dinamo Minsk and will play away to Heidenheim, Cypriot side Omonoia and Petrocub of Moldova.

Elsewhere, The New Saints became the first-ever Welsh domestic side to qualify for a major European tournament, after beating FK Panevezys in the qualifiers. They were drawn against Fiorentina, Shamrock Rovers and Slovenian club, Celje.
