Manchester United will seek a fifth consecutive Premier League victory on Saturday afternoon when they host Fulham at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag has found a winning formula in recent weeks to lift the Red Devils up to sixth, five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, also securing their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

However, there are still issues for the Dutchman to work around despite the lift in mood both on and off the pitch. Luke Shaw won’t play again this season while Lisandro Martinez also returned to the treatment room after a brief return. With Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also out injured, there are serious problems at full-back.

With that in mind, here’s the Man Utd team Ten Hag could pick against Fulham.

GK: Andre Onana – The Cameroonian is in a good patch of form despite his team’s struggle for clean sheets as a whole. Recently reminded his teammates they have “done nothing” yet despite the upturn in results.

RB: Diogo Dalot – One of Man Utd’s stronger performers so far this season with a goal and two assists in the Premier League in 2023/24, Dalot will be kept on the right flank given natural alternative Wan-Bissaka is injured.

CB: Raphael Varane – Many personnel selections have been made to protect the fitness of Varane, who missed matches at the start of the campaign, but it’s the players around him who are now struggling.

CB: Harry Maguire – Maguire’s return to fitness has not seen the England defender produce his best form, being replaced at half-time of the win over Luton Town after a poor performance. Is set for a run of games and needs to buck his ideas up.

LB: Victor Lindelof – Shaw’s injury is a serious blow for Man Utd and Ten Hag. Lindelof has not looked comfortable when deployed at left-back but it’s the solution the manager has settled on with no one else available.

CM: Casemiro – Was pretty fortunate not to be dismissed at Kenilworth Road, being booked for three fouls before he was hooked at half-time. He undoubtedly remains part of United’s best XI but fans might welcome an exit in the summer, with the Saudi Pro League a possible destination.

CM: Kobbie Mainoo – The 18-year-old is undroppable right now, having made an undeniable impact as a regular starter. It’s his position now, even with Sofyan Amrabat, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount at the club.

RW: Antony – He has fallen out of favour since Ten Hag settled on a winning formula, but an injury means that the coach will have to shuffle the pack and this is an opportunity that the Brazilian simply has to take.

AM: Bruno Fernandes – Only James Maddison (7.56) and Martin Odegaard (6.26) rank ahead of Fernandes (6) for shot-creating actions per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season, making his haul of three goals and five assists a little odd.

LW: Alejandro Garnacho – A rival for Dalot in the player of the season running, Garnacho showed against Luton that finishing is what he needs to improve next. The Argentinian had eight shots last time out but only found the target with two. Will shift to the left with Antony coming in on the right.

ST: Marcus Rashford – Got rinsed on social media for some leisurely pressing towards the end of the Luton win. Without a goal in three games but has looked threatening since returning from an off-field debacle. He will have to play down the middle thanks to Rasmus Hojlund’s injury.
