Manchester City and USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen surprised schoolchildren in Ashton-under-Lyne outside Manchester last week, delivering Christmas gifts to more than 150 kids.

Steffen, who first moved to England in 2019 and has 29 caps for his country, was joined by former Columbus Crew teammate Alex Crognale for the festive initiative.

Together, Steffen and Birmingham Legion defender Crognale are co-founders of the VOYCENOW Foundation, which aims to help disadvantaged children through education, sports and ‘healthy habits’.

The pair also posed for pictures with students and teachers on the trip, which was done alongside children’s charity Power2.

It comes after Jack Grealish and some of Steffen’s other City team-mates visited the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as part of their ‘Greatest Season of All’ Christmas campaign.

The England forward was seen interacting with and talking to a number of patients at the hospital, as well as teaming up with Nathan Ake in a game of table football during the visit.

So far, the campaign has raised more than £200,000 towards community projects for young people in Greater Manchester.

VOYCENOW, meanwhile, was setup following the murder of George Floyd, a black man who died in May 2020 after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by police in Minneapolis.

The tragic incident sparked mass protests around the world and prompted Steffen to join forces with Crognale.

The pair, who played together at Columbus and the University of Maryland, now advocate for equality with the help of 150-plus athlete ambassadors across 20 leagues and 13 countries.
