Manchester United haven’t given up on Donny van de Beek just yet, refusing to include the option for a permanent move in the Dutchman’s Everton loan deal.

The midfielder has rejected interest from Crystal Palace to spend the rest of the season at Goodison Park, having been denied a single Premier League start by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick in 2021/22.

The deal could have been done six months earlier, when a seething Van de Beek sacked his agent following the breakdown of a short-term Everton move in the summer.

United have made clear that the deal is no gateway to a permanent Old Trafford exit after rejecting the Blues’ proposal of an option-to-buy clause – hoping a few months away from Manchester can revitalise the 24-year-old.

The 20-time English champions are set to receive a £500,000 loan fee, with Everton covering all of Van de Beek’s £100,000-per-week wages.

The £40million signing will hope to finally launch his career in English football at Goodison, with incoming manager Frank Lampard surely the ideal mentor for his rebuild.

The legendary England and Chelsea midfielder is set to be announced imminently by the Toffees, replacing interim boss Duncan Ferguson after Rafa Benitez’s sacking.

Lampard was arguably the finest goalscoring midfielder of his generation, firing 177 Premier League times across his top-flight career.

Van de Beek has scored only twice for United in 50 appearances, but his 41 goals in 175 games for Ajax suggest there is potential for Lampard to unlock.

Both the Dutchman and his new boss will need to hit the ground running, with the Toffees sliding towards a relegation battle.

They’ve lost four straight games in the Premier League, hovering only four points above the drop zone.
