Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans has admitted the squad have struggled to manage the uncertainty surrounding manager Erik ten Hag.

Evans, 36, was the star of the show as United battled to a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, helping to ease the pressure on Ten Hag despite the fact the Dutchman has now overseen United’s worst start to a season in Premier League history.

Club officials met on Tuesday in a regular scheduled meeting, where Ten Hag’s future is likely to have been one of many topics of discussion.

Asked whether the continued speculation has been a problem for the United players, Evans said: “It does affect the players. It’s on our minds too.

“I think the more experience I’ve got in my career I’ve made sure I do everything to be ready and give everything I can to the team. That was the important thing to show the spirit in the team. Everyone competed as much as they could. That’s a pleasing thing to see.”

Evans’ centre-back partner Harry Maguire recently stressed the players are still behind Ten Hag, while the Dutchman is still expecting to remain in charge of United after the October internationals.
