Mason Mount is back in training for Manchester United but manager Erik ten Hag admits he doesn’t know when the £60million star will return to action.

Mount was ruled out for up to a month after sustaining a calf injury before last weekend’s win over Everton at Goodison Park.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Newcastle at St James’ Park, Ten Hag revealed that Mount is back out on the grass at United’s Carrington training complex but is unsure when the England international will be available again.

United are still without Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia, who are expected to be out of action until January, while Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans are still not ready. ‘There are players on the way back but I can’t give a prognosis on how long it will take,’ added Ten Hag.

Newcastle also have a number of injury concerns as they try to repeat their Carabao Cup victory over holders United at Old Trafford a month ago.

‘I really respect them,’ added Ten Hag. ‘It’s a difficult team to play, but it’s a good challenge and I like to play against them. We have to rise to the occasion, be on our best against them because the way they play is very organised.’
