Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero reportedly lied about his ability to speak english to avoid interviews, according to former team-mate Micah Richards.

The Argentine spent a decade with City and became an icon after becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

He rarely did interviews during his time in the Premier League as he struggled to speak English – but that was all a facade.

‘Aguero was lying! When they was asking him to do interviews, he was saying “I don’t speak English”,’ Richards said speaking on a recent episode of The Rest Is Football podcast.

‘He spoke brilliant English, knew exactly what the slang terms were. He knew all the terminologies.

‘Of course speaking with your friends and having an interview is two different things. But he just played on that so much and he got away with it.

‘Muggins like me, James Milner, Joleon Lescott, all the English lads had to do the media because Kun just basically said “I don’t speak no English”.’

During his time with City,  Aguero became their all-time leading goalscorer with 260 goals in 389 appearances across all competitions.

He also won 12 major silverwares including five Premier League titles, six League Cups and the FA Cup.

He left to join Barcelona in the summer of 2021 but was forced into retirement just months later due to heart issues.
