Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron has travelled with the squad to Aston Villa, ruling out a move to Saudi Arabia.

The transfer window in Saudi closes on Tuesday night and the Paraguayan now looks set to stay at St James’ Park.

There have been talks with Al-Shebab over a transfer during the past week but Almiron preferred to see out the season at Newcastle.

Eddie Howe always wanted to keep Almiron but had accepted the club may look to sell some players to ease their PSR limitations.

Last week, Mail Sport reported the Magpies had held talks with the Saudi Arabian side for the midfielder.

Al-Shebab had approached Newcastle with a proposal for a permanent deal of around £17million, but it was understood that Almiron himself would prefer to stay at Newcastle and expressed his wish to remain at St James’ Park.

The 29-year-old is settled on Tyneside with his young family and was not open to leaving England this month. Almiron signed for Newcastle from MLS side Atlanta United in January 2019 for a fee north of £20m.

He penned a new three-year extension in February last year and is under contract with Newcastle until June 2026.

Howe admitted on Monday that it would need a player to leave for one to come in and it is unlikely Newcastle will do any trading before Thursday’s deadline.

‘Keeping the squad intact, as the manager, and trying to produce a team to win games would be the one (preference) for me,’ he said.

‘But we are guardians of the club’s future and we want to make the right decisions for the club’s future and for FFP. We don’t want to breach FFP. That is where I will support the decisions that are made for the long term and that will benefit the club.’
