A National League South match between Eastbourne Borough and Truro City has been abandoned following a serious injury to defender Alex Finney.

The match was halted in the 58th minute after Eastbourne Borough defender Finney went down in their penalty area following a challenge.

Eastbourne Borough’s social media account later reported that Finney was ‘clearly in discomfort’.

‘Due to injury to Alex Finney requiring an ambulance for treatment, the match at Meadow Park has been abandoned. More details to follow,’ Eastbourne Borough posted. 

The abandonment came with the match goalless.

Finney joined Eastbourne Borough, who play in the country’s sixth tier of football, last summer.

The 27-year-old began his career at youth level with Leyton Orient, before moves to Bolton and Queens Park Rangers.

He has since had spells at non-league clubs including Maidstone United and Aldershot Town.

Finney moved to Eastbourne Borough after two seasons playing to Ebbsfleet United.
