Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has heaped praise on the ‘integral’ duo of Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes after they fired his side to a 3-0 victory at struggling Norwich City.

Joelinton scored twice in the first half before Guimaraes found the net not long after the restart in a dominant win for Howe’s team, who have moved up to ninth in the Premier League following their fourth straight victory.

Brazilian Joelinton was serenaded by the travelling Newcastle fans at full-time, who had unveiled a banner before kick-off to mark his 100th top flight game.

The 25-year-old had been written off as a £40million flop but he has since become a cult hero at the club and a key part of Howe’s resurgent side, who have won 10 of their last 14 matches.

Guimaraes has made an instant impact since joining from Lyon in January in a deal which could rise to £42million.

‘They’re a joy to work with. They do have that inner strength,’ Howe said.

‘They’re both great people and they’ve become integral to the squad. They’re settled in and are very popular.

‘They do have a slight flamboyance with the way they play. I’m delighted with both of them. Long may that continue really.’

Newcastle were 19th when Howe took the job but the former Bournemouth boss has guided the club to a position of safety.

‘I think it is, when you look back and think of some of the days we had early on – the Cambridge defeat, the late equaliser Watford scored, they were difficult moments and we were a long, long way from where we are now so it’s taken an incredible effort from the players, staff and supporters to lift us into the position that we are,’ Howe added.

‘I can’t thank anyone enough for what they’ve given me and the team.’
