Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron has been banned from driving for failing to identify the driver of his car — for a second time.

Police requested the information after he was seen allegedly using his mobile while driving near Newcastle’s training camp in December last year by a member of the public who tipped off police.

Almiron did not respond and has now been banned from driving for six months after magistrates said they were ‘satisfied beyond reasonable doubt’ that he was the driver, reports the Sun.

He will be unable to get behind the wheel for six months after being convicted of an offence in his absence at Gateshead Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, according to Chronicle Live.

Almiron has been on international duty with Paraguay and played in their 1-0 win over Bolivia on Tuesday.

Almiron was accused of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver/rider of a vehicle when required on April 24 this year.

The charge relates to the identification of the driver of a Land Rover, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

The Paraguayan was also accused of using a handheld mobile phone/device while driving a motor vehicle on Benton Lane in Longbenton on December 14, 2022.

The charge was dismissed by the court on Thursday.

Almiron, of High Callerton, Newcastle, did not attend the court hearing and the failing to give information charge was proved in his absence. He was disqualified from driving for six months and handed a £660 fine.

No pleas were entered by Almiron during the court case.
