Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has confirmed he will not be leaving Tottenham Hotspur before the winter transfer window closes.

The likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus have been heavily linked with Hojbjerg in recent months after falling down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou – he has managed 21 appearances in the Premier League but just five of those have come as a starter.

Hojbjerg’s lawyer, Lars Halgreen, told Sky in Germany on Monday: “Despite the rumours and background noise, the player was always focused on helping the team, coaches and Tottenham. The player never asked for a change. He has great ambitions with Tottenham and Denmark. His only focus is Tottenham to finish the season well and to help as much as possible.”

Asked whether he could confirm his lawyer’s stance on Deadline Day, Hojbjerg laughed: “When the lawyer says it, I think we have to listen! So, yeah I can confirm that.”

Despite acknowledging his reduced role this season, Hojbjerg remained adamant he is still committed to the task at hand under Postecoglou.

“I definitely feel I can help the team,” he said. “The key is that we are playing for something. I always said in the past like I say now, what drives me is the purpose of fighting for something and I definitely feel that Tottenham is fighting for something.”

Reports had claimed Hojbjerg’s future at Tottenham could be tied to his side’s pursuit of Conor Gallagher, who remains available for transfer but is valued at close to £60m – a figure which is too high for Spurs.

Postecoglou has confirmed he does not expect any further signings before the window closes on Thursday evening, suggesting he remains satisfied with the group available to him.
