Bridget Hustwaite, a well-known radio host and author, has publicly accused her former partner, a prominent football player, of engaging in “blatant bullying and disrespect” after their relationship ended late last year.

On Sunday, Hustwaite shared via Instagram Stories that she has blocked Oscar McDonald, a defender for the Fremantle Dockers, after he seemingly made a jab at her in a social media post celebrating his 30th birthday.

On Friday, McDonald published a photo of himself celebrating the milestone surrounded by friends and captioned it ’30. Tough age apparently.’

The comment also caught the attention of McDonald’s close friends and family. His sister, Sacha, chimed in with a telling reply: “Figured it out.”

In response, Hustwaite criticized both McDonald and his football club in a post she made shortly after being discharged from the hospital, where she had been treated for a ruptured cyst.

“I was expecting a quiet day to recover, but instead, I received numerous articles about social media posts I can’t see because I’ve blocked this individual,” she explained in the video.

“Initially, I planned to ignore it because I dislike how topics like relationships are often trivialized for online discussion,” she added.

‘But I also can’t really just sit back and allow, like, blatant bullying and disrespect of me and my work.

‘If you work in a public-facing role, and especially if you represent, you know, a brand organisation, a sporting club, this is not a good look on you, on who you work for, and it’s just mean.

‘I ended my relationship last year for reasons that are really serious to me … for me it’s much more serious than just airing dirty laundry.

‘I don’t know why a birthday post had to be turned into just taking swipes at me but, you know, I’m not surprised.

‘I just wanted to stand up for myself.’

The fallout marks a dramatic shift from the couple’s once-promising relationship, which began with a major life change in late 2023.

At the time, Hustwaite relocated from Melbourne to Perth to live with McDonald after he signed with Fremantle, describing the move as ‘a fun new adventure and a really nice change of scenery.’

The radio star embraced life in Western Australia, even hinting she would pursue new opportunities if they arose, while supporting McDonald’s AFL career.

Hustwaite later revealed she had flown between Perth and Melbourne dozens of times during the relationship, writing: ‘Flew out 60 times between Perth and Melbourne throughout that period so really tried.’

In a candid message shared this week, she hinted at the emotional cost of the arrangement and her decision to prioritise her wellbeing.

‘I couldn’t keep abandoning myself, my health and my career,’ she wrote.

‘No regrets because I know my heart, what I bring to all of my relationships and what I stand for both publicly and privately.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Oscar McDonald for comment.
