Sterling had featured prominently for Gareth Southgate during the England manager’s seven-year spell.

Sterling has earned 55 of his 82 England caps under Southgate, with only Harry Kane, Harry Maguire, Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker and John Stones featuring more.

His last appearance for England was during their World Cup quarter-final defeat to France.

Following his move from Manchester City, the Englishman has struggled to find consistent form.

The Chelsea star was on the end of a 4-1 thrashing by Liverpool earlier in this week.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit tenth in the league and is facing questions about his future.

Chelsea will look to return to winning ways when the Blues host Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.
