Real Madrid star Rodrygo has revealed why he emulated his idol Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal celebration against Chelsea.
The Brazilian forward scored both goals as the Spanish giants beat the Blues 2-0 in their Champions League quarter-final second leg at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, 4-0 on aggregate.
After scoring the opener, the 22-year-old pulled out Ronaldo’s trademark celebration, which sees him jump up in the air before turning around and landing with his arms out while shouting ‘Siuuuu’.
Rodrygo normally celebrates by performing a knee slide – but opened up on why he did not in front of a quiet crowd in west London.
He said: ‘When I scored, my immediate reaction was to think about doing one of those knee slides.

And forward Rodrygo revealed why he did Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siu’ rather than a knee slide
‘But I have got a slightly tender knee when I flex. So it popped into my mind to copy my idol Cristiano, and copy what he does.
‘It’s such a pleasure to be at this great club, the best in the world.
‘(Goalkeeper Thibaut) Courtois saved us when we weren’t initially finishing our chances and now we’ll see whether it’s (Manchester) City or Bayern we face next.’
After winning the first leg in the Spanish capital 2-0 thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio, Real were in a strong position to progress to the last four.
But N’Golo Kante and Marc Cucurella missed early chances, and that profligacy would cost them.
Rodrygo found the net from close range from Vinicius Junior’s pass after scorching past Trevoh Chalobah down Chelsea’s left hand side.
When Fede Valverde danced through a static home defence, Rodrygo was on hand to tap into an empty net – though he was clattered by goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for his troubles.
Real will face Bayern Munich or Manchester City, who play on Wednesday evening, in a heavyweight semi-final.
