Robert Lewandowski may be set to part ways with Barcelona at the conclusion of the current season, according to remarks made by his wife.

The 37-year-old striker’s contract is due to lapse in June, and earlier reports from the Spanish publication Sport indicated that Barcelona is unlikely to extend his tenure with the club.

Since transferring from Bayern Munich to Barcelona in 2022, Lewandowski has proven to be an exceptional goal scorer, amassing a remarkable 113 goals over 173 matches.

Speaking to the Polish outlet Plejada, as reported by Marca, his wife expressed, “We’ll see how the season unfolds in Barcelona this year, as it seems likely that this will be my husband’s last season here.”

“We’ve made the most of our time, savoring every moment and match with the fans, aware that this experience won’t last forever,” she continued.

“What lies ahead is uncertain, but such is the journey of a top-tier athlete and sportsman, and we are prepared for it,” she added.

She added to Twoj Styl: ‘I told Robert: “I’m inviting you on a date, for dinner, so we can finally talk calmly.

‘He asked if we would talk about me on the date, because we talk about different things every day. I told him yes. For 20 years, everything has revolved around football. Recently, I’ve felt that I, too, need the attention of my loved ones.’

The couple married in 2013 and have two daughters: Klara, eight, and Laura, five.

Anna’s comments will put top clubs around Europe on red alert because Lewandowski is still scoring at a prolific rate.

He has slowed down this season, hitting 12 in 25 games, but it is still a highly respectable record which has helped fire Barcelona to the top of LaLiga, a Spanish Super Cup title, and the last 16 of the Champions League.

Recently, he has had to settle for a place on the bench more often than not as manager Hansi Flick has opted for Ferran Torres up front instead.

The Polish legend hinted in December that he was considering leaving. ‘Right now, I don’t know where I want to play,’ he said.

‘There’s no need to think about it yet. I don’t know which direction to take, but I’m not under any pressure.’

In December, some felt Lewandowski had lost his touch when he was mocked for ‘one of the worst penalties in LaLiga history’.

Barcelona supporters could barely believe what they had seen after Lewandowski ballooned the ball into the stands when it was 1-1 against Atletico Madrid. As it happened, Barca eventually won 3-1, anyway.

‘Lewandowski takes one of the worst penalties in LaLiga history,’ ran a headline in Spanish newspaper AS.

Meanwhile, Marca called it ‘one of the worst penalties of the Polish striker’s long career’.

‘He had to send the ball to his brothers in Poland,’ somebody said on X.

‘I think they need to build a bigger stand so the ball doesn’t leave the stadium next time,’ another said.

‘Bro actually sent that ball to another world entirely,’ one said.

‘Lewandowski just shot the worst penalty I’ve seen,’ another wrote.

Another user posted an image of the moon and joked: ‘Lewandowski’s penalty ball has been found.’
