Ruben Neves has broken his silence surrounding a potential move to Newcastle United as he distanced himself with a return to the Premier League.

This comes as it was previously reported that Eddie Howe’s side were considering a loan move for Neves after Sandro Tonali’s 10-month ban.

However, there was controversy surrounding the transfer as Al-Hilal are one of four Saudi Pro League teams owned by the country’s Public Investment Fund, who also hold a majority stake in Newcastle.

Since the news, Neves has opened up on a potential move to Newcastle in the January transfer window.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Neves distanced himself from a move as he committed his future to Al-Hilal.

‘I don’t go,’ he said bluntly.

When asked further about the rumour, Neves admitted that Newcastle were previously interested in him and said that he understands the transfer rumour.

‘I think that’s rumours because of the owner of the clubs of course, and because I’ve played in England as well,’ he added.

‘There was Newcastle interest before I came here but I’m really happy here, my family’s really happy, so I’m having a great time.’

Neves concluded by doubling down on his previous statement regarding his future, seemingly committing himself to Al-Hilal.

‘Everything is going really well for me and I want to stay here,’ he concluded.

Newcastle may have to search elsewhere for midfield reinforcements in January, with Tonali out for the foreseeable future.
