Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis have announced the birth of their baby boy.

The footballing super couple, who are due to be married later this December, had revealed that they were expecting a baby back in November 2024.

On Thursday morning, the couple took to Instagram to announce the exciting news to their followers that they have named their newborn son Jagger Mewis-Kerr.

Mewis, a star for West Ham and the USA, leaned her head against her fiancée Kerr’s shoulder, who beamed as their baby boy nestled into the Matildas superstar for a cuddle.

‘Our little man is here, Jagger Mewis-Kerr,’ the pair wrote on Instagram.

Mewis, 34, and Kerr, 31, got engaged back in 2023, with the US soccer star sharing the happy news with People Magazine, adding that she was thankful for her partner for being by her side.

It is understood that the pair had met around six months after the Matildas captain had moved to London in 2019.

During her recent high-profile court case, where Kerr was cleared of the racially aggravated harassment of a British police officer, the five-time Women’s Super League winner opened up on her relationship with Mewis and that they had first met during lockdown in 2019.

She said the American footballer had ‘slid into her DMs’ and the pair subsequently began dating.

Kerr had also revealed during the trial that she and Mewis were expecting a baby boy while giving evidence in court. Mewis had stood by her beau throughout the trial, with the pair also stating that they were hoping to get married in December 2025.

The pair made headlines back in 2021 after the West Ham midfielder was seen consoling Kerr on the footy pitch following Australia’s agonising 4-3 defeat by the USA in the Tokyo Olympics third-place play-off.

The Matildas missed out on winning bronze in what was a thriling match, but Kerr had cut an emotional figure, hiding her face in her shirt. Mewis quickly arrived to console her beau, with the pair sitting down just off the centre circle and sharing a hug and a smile as they reflected on the match.

Following their engagement, Mewis spoke out on their relationship, stating: ‘[She’s] my biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain at all of my crazy antics.’

The Chelsea star, meanwhile, has not played for either her club or national side in over a year, after she suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury back in January 2024.

Blues boss Sonia Bompastor recently claimed that she was unable to put a time frame on when Kerr would be able to return for the football club.

It comes as the 31-year-old has been making promising strides to return to play, with the footy star having been recently seen training back on grass as well as flying out to Australia to train with Tom Sermanni’s Matildas team during their recent international friendlies against South Korea.

Their post on Thursday was flooded with comments from many around the footballing world, including the Matildas, who congratulated the Chelsea and Australia striker on the exciting news.

‘Congratulations!’ the Matildas official account wrote.

Barclays Women’s Super League added: ‘Congratulations!’ West Ham Women wrote: ‘Congratulations, Kristie and Sam.’ adding a heart and ‘crossed hammers’ emoji.

One of Kerr’s Chelsea team-mates, Aggie Beever-Jones added: ‘Cutest ever’, while Chelsea Women wrote: ‘Congratulations, Sam and Kristie! Adorable’ with a blue love-heart emoji.

Since announcing they were expecting a baby, Kerr and Mewis have been jetting back and forth from the UK to Australia.

The pair flew Down Under in December to celebrate Christmas with Kerr’s family in Perth.

The happy couple had been all smiles as they strolled through the arrivals gate at Perth Airport, with Mewis showing off her baby bump through a white tank top.

Mewis moved to West Ham in 2023, having previously spent the past six years of her career playing in the US for NJ/NY Gotham, Houston Dash, Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit. Prior to that, she had also enjoyed short loan spells with Bayern Munich and Iga FC Kunoichi in Japan, while contracted to the Boston Breakers.

Mewis was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts and enjoyed a promising early career in football, being capped at U17, U20 and U23 level for the US national side, before going on to return seven goals across 53 international appearances for the team, winning three SheBelieves Cups and a CONCACAF Women’s Championship in 2022.

The pair were also pictured attending the marriage of Kerr’s Matildas team-mate Emily Van Egmond and her partner Kat Thompson later in December.

Mewis had been several months pregnant at the time and she glowed as she showed off her baby bump while wearing a stunning blue and white gown.

After the wedding, Kerr was handed some horror news that her grandmother had been struck by a ute in Perth and subsequently flew back to Western Australia alongside Mewis to be by her side in hospital.

She later returned to the UK ahead of her court case in Kingston Crown Court, with the Matildas star, who has returned a whopping 69 goals across 128 appearances for Australia, to become the team’s all-time leading goalscorer, appearing in court alongside her partner Mewis.

Kerr and Mewis had been on a night out in January 2023, when they were involved in a heated row with a taxi driver and subsequently a police officer at Twickenham Poilce Station.

The 31-year-old had called a police officer ‘stupid and white’ but was found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment of the cop, with the Chelsea star subsequently apologising and admitting her remorse over the matter. She later thanked her partner Kristie as well as friends and family for supporting her through the trial.

Concerns had been raised that Kerr would not retain the Matildas captain’s armband following the trial, but Football Australia have thrown their backing behind the chelsea striker, adding they would be ‘taking no further action’ against Kerr.

Though it still remains unclear when she could return to action, with the Matildas next back in action against Argentina on May 30.
