England secured their spot at Euro 2024 next summer after a thoroughly impressive 3-1 win over Italy at Wembley inspired by Jude Bellingham.

After conceding an early goal to former West Ham star Gianluca Scamacca, the Three Lions responded with three goals to ensure they would be taking their places as expected in Germany. 

Harry Kane struck from the spot before the break, before Marcus Rashford’s fine strike from out side the box made it two on 57 minutes.

Kane finally gets a Spurs farewell 

Harry Kane finally bid a personal farewell to his former Tottenham colleagues at their Enfield HQ on Tuesday.

The England captain – as Mail Sport revealed on Tuesday – found time to reconnect with his ex-team-mates ahead of the clash versus Italy.

We disclosed on October 6, that Kane would be granted permission by Spurs to access all parts of their training facility upon his return in order to see Tottenham’s players and staff for the first time since his £120million move to Bayern Munich.

England arrived at Tottenham’s training facility on Thursday, but Kane kept a low profile before finally linking up with his old pals on Tuesday.

Tomori will return a better player 

Former Serie A defender Paul Elliott has backed AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori to return from Italy a better footballer despite being left out of the England squad for the game versus Italy.

Tomori started Friday’s 1-0 win over Australia but, together with Eddie Nketiah, was cut from the squad for the clash versus Italy.

But Elliott, who became the first black British defender to play in Serie A when he joined Pisa in 1987, told Mail Sport: ‘The reports I’m getting from Italy about Tomori are exceptional.

‘They [Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek] will improve in Italy.’

Wembley vigilant 

Wembley beefed up security on Tuesday night following the worrying scenes in Brussels that resulted in two Swedish supporters being shot dead in a suspected terror attack on Monday.

The clash between Belgium and Sweden was abandoned, supporters locked inside the King Baudouin Stadium 4am amide safety fears.

As a result, additional officers were deployed in and around the national stadium, while the deaths were marked by a period of silence before kick-off.

Cheers drown out the boos 

Thankfully for Jordan Henderson, the cheers drowned out the audible boos as he came on as a substitute on Tuesday night.

Henderson admits he was ‘hurt’ by the negative crowd reaction to him during the friendly win over Australia on Friday.

And those intent on dishing out more of the same to England’s vice-captain in protest at his move to Saudi Arabia were muted.

The fall-out from last week’s decision not to light up Wembley’s arch in Israeli colours in tribute to those who have tragically lost their lives in the Middle East conflict rumbles on.

In particular, FA insiders have been at a loss to explain how a 10-year old tweet from Deji Davies – the chair of the organisation’s inclusion advisory board – in which he called for Euro U21 2013 to be boycotted because it was hosted by Israel accompanied with a hashtag of #FreePalestine wasn’t picked up by the organisation’s ‘deep dive’ into his social media activity ahead of his appointment just over a year ago.
