Tottenham fans turned on owner Daniel Levy and the ENIC group once again after manager Antonio Conte threatened to quit the club after Spurs’ defeat at Burnley.

Conte’s side lost 1-0 to the relegation-threatened side just a few days after champions and leaders Manchester City on the weekend, with Ben Mee scoring the winning goal with 15 minutes remaining on Wednesday night.

Spurs fans became seriously concerned when their Italian coach – a serial winner at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus – threatened to walk about after just a few months in charge as he claimed: ‘I am not so good to improve it.’

And Tottenham fans took to social media to once again dig out long-term owner Levy, who has overseen just one trophy in 21 years at the Spurs helm, accusing him  of failing to provide another top-class manager with the appropriate funds.

One fan tweeted: ‘Tottenham broke Pochettino, Mourinho, and Conte. The members of this club’s board won’t see heaven.’

Another claimed: ’45 mins later & the manager has said the same. Too many of these inadequate players have somehow been able to stay here far too long & we don’t sign world class players in their prime or ready made quality. & Our fans don’t help, they just accept it! Time for a change! #ENICOUT’

One fan wrote: ‘Same Chairman. Same owners. Same players. 21 years. ONE league cup. No manager in the world could stop the rotten decline of this club. People are turning on Conte already. He’s expected to win a gunfight with a spoon. #ENICOut #LevyOut #backconte’

Another added: ‘Regardless of who the manager is or how s*** the players are. Always remember that these mfs (Levy and the ENIC group) are the biggest problem at the club. #ENICOut #LevyOut’

Meanwhile, one Tottenham fan angrily said: ‘Conte pile the pressure on the owners. Utter disgrace. #ENICOut #Levyout.’

One fan posted: ‘Same players, different coach! Pathetic!’ while another fan added: ‘Conte walks, I walk #ENICOUT #LEVYOUT’

It is not the first time Tottenham fans have turned on their own board, with Levy and the ENIC group coming under serious criticism for their role in signing the club up to the now-botched European Super League project last April.

Spurs fans protested outside their home ground at several top-flight matches last season, with banners demanding that Levy steps aside seen regularly over the last 12 months.

Losing Conte to a resignation – so soon after he signed a 18-month contract with the club at the start of November – would be an all-time blow for Levy – a possibility which became more realistic after Wednesday night’s result.

‘I have to talk to the club,’ said Conte after Tottenham lost at Turf Moor. ‘I am too honest to close my eyes and continue in this way, and also take my salary.

‘I want to take my responsibility. I am open for every decision because I want to help Tottenham. Four defeats in the last five games, this is the first time in my life this type of situation has happened. This is unacceptable.

‘I came in to try and improve the situation with Tottenham but maybe in this moment, I am not so good to improve it. I’m trying to do everything to change the situation but the situation is not changing.’

Wednesday night’s result leaves them seven points behind Manchester United in fourth-placed, though Spurs – who have picked up four defeats in their last five league games – have two games in hand over the Red Devils.

Conte arrived at Spurs in November to succeed the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo, just a few months after inspiring Inter Milan to win their first Serie A crown in 11 years and breaking Juventus’ nine-year stranglehold on the Italian title.

He also won the Premier League in his first season with Chelsea and set off Juve’s dominant decade by leading the Old Lady to their first title since the Calciopoli scandal in 2012.
