Man United are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta during the January transfer window.

According to Goal, United have ‘not yet opened talks’ to sign the 24-year-old, but are ‘evaluating a move for the Atalanta midfielder.’

It comes as Erik ten Hag is looking to bring in more midfield options, following the injuries to Casemiro and Mason Mount.

Goal also claim that Man United are ‘considering sending a proposal in the transfer window’ to sign Ederson. They also state that the Brazilian’s representatives have also been contacted by the club and that ‘the situation may progress in the coming days.’

Ederson joined Atalanta back in 2022 from Salernitana and has gone on to return six goals in 60 appearances across all competitons for the club.

He has also proved pivotal in Atalanta’s fine form this season, starting in 17 of the 18 Serie A appearances he has made this year, with Atalanta going sixth in the league – just four points off fourth place.

Before arriving in Italy, he would spend time on the books at Brazilian clubs, Corinthians, Cruzeiro and Fortaleza, going on to join Salernitana in 2022.

He signed for Salernitana for £13m, and Goal believes that he will be worth more than that now, with his contract with Atalanta set to end in June, 2026.

Man United are set to be active in the upcoming window, with Ten Hag reportedly also looking for a new striker to supplement Rasmus Hojlund up top.

United have reportedly identified several forwards, including Timo Werner and Stuttgart hotshot Serhou Guirassy.

Following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 percent purchase of the club, Ten Hag also reportedly admitted today that he wants to retain his right to veto any transfers he doesn’t like – a clause that was initially written into his contract upon joining the club.
