According to a new report, Tottenham Hotspur is considering hiring Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola this summer if they decide to part with Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou’s second season has been highly disappointing for the team, plagued by injuries and lackluster performances, which have resulted in Spurs dropping to 14th place in the Premier League standings.
Speculation about Postecoglou’s future with Spurs has been ongoing, and the club has been looking into potential replacements in anticipation of possibly having to part ways with the Australian coach this summer.
Former boss Mauricio Pochettino has publicly admitted his interest in returning to the club, but The Athletic report that chairman Daniel Levy will resist the urge to pursue a reunion in favour of chasing Iraola.
Iraola has dazzled since his move to Bournemouth in 2023, but he is approaching the final year of his contract, which includes a release clause of £10m. Such a sum is unlikely to cause any problems for Spurs.
Fulham’s Marco Silva and Brentford’s Thomas Frank are seen as alternative targets but, crucially, no decision has been made on Postecoglou’s future as it stands.
While their Premier League campaign is all about saving face at this point, Spurs remain in the Europa League and know lifting that trophy would seal an unlikely spot in next season’s Champions League. Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt await in the quarter-final next month.
Like Iraola, Postecoglou’s contract has one full year left to run. Spurs also have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.
