Trent Alexander-Arnold is reported to have rejected another offer of a new contract from Liverpool as he eyes a free transfer to Real Madrid.
Liverpool have a few notable players whose contracts are nearing expiration, causing concern among fans about their future at Anfield. Alexander-Arnold joins Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in this group.
Liverpool is hopeful about renewing the contracts of Salah and Van Dijk, but the same cannot be said for Alexander-Arnold. Recent reports suggest that his potential move to Madrid is almost finalized, with claims that it is “99% complete.”
Now, MARCA state Alexander-Arnold has effectively delivered one final blow to Liverpool by rejecting yet another offer of a new contract.
It is rumored that Alexander-Arnold has already set his sights on Madrid and decided to leave Anfield quite some time ago. Supposedly, nothing can sway his decision to depart, indicating a firm resolve in his desire to join the Spanish club.
An agreement over personal terms has been reached between Madrid and Alexander-Arnold, who has not yet signed a formal pre-contract but is widely expected to make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
A move to Madrid would land Alexander-Arnold in a significant battle for minutes with Dani Carvajal. The Englishman is the obvious long-term heir but 33-year-old Carvajal, who is battling to return from a nasty knee injury, has vowed to remain at the peak of his powers when he eventually makes his comeback.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will be forced into a decision when it comes to replacing Alexander-Arnold. Academy graduate Conor Bradley, 21, has operated as his deputy this season but manager Arne Slot may prefer a more senior replacement, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong often linked.
