The monthly salary of Mason Greenwood has been revealed in the French media, with the Marseille forward one of the highest-paid players in the country.

Greenwood moved across the English Channel last summer swapping Manchester United for the south of France in a deal worth £27m plus £3.2m in add-ons.

The 23-year-old is enjoying a prolific season at Marseille so far, having scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 26 Ligue 1 matches so far.

In an article published on Wednesday afternoon, French publication L’Equipe produced a list of the most lucrative contracts in Ligue 1.

They caveat their list that these are gross monthly salaries and therefore do not include bonuses. They further add that the average monthly salary we provide for each club is an estimate that takes into account the professional squad, with the exception of youth players whose playing time is limited.

As a result, their figure has Greenwood earning €450,000-per-month which equates to £377,000-per-month, placing him 16th on their list.

It will be no surprise that Paris Saint-Germain dominate this list with the first 12 players at the top.

Leading the way is Ousmane Dembele at £1.26million-per-month (€1.5m).

His team-mate, and captain, Marquinhos is second at £1m (€1.2m), while Achraf Hakimi and Lucas Hernandez are joint-third at £920,000-per-month (€1.1m) each.

Prodigal talent Warren Zaire-Emery rounds out the top five at £794,000-per-month (€950,000).

Greenwood may be 16th but he isn’t the highest-paid Marseille player though, that reward goes to Adrien Rabiot and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Rabiot and ex-Southampton and Tottenham midfielder Hojbjerg both earn £418,000-per-month (€500,000).

Greenwood’s position on this list may not last long though, with reports that he could be sold at the end of the season.

After being a guaranteed starter for much of the season, Greenwood has had to make do with appearances from the bench for clashes against Lens and Paris Saint-Germain.

The reason for the recent exile was seemingly revealed by manager Roberto De Zerbi earlier this month when he intimated the former Manchester United youngster is falling short of his work rate expectations.

‘No one can have more respect for him (Greenwood) than I do,’ said De Zerbi. ‘But that doesn’t change anything: I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough.

‘If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined.

According to RMC Sport journalist Florent Germain via BFM Marseille, Greenwood could be headed for the Marseille exit door if he does not heed the advice of his manager.

‘He is a player that can make a big difference but honestly, if he doesn’t react, questions will be asked about a departure for Greenwood this summer,’ said Germain.

‘If he isn’t able to understand that his manager and his directors fought against a risk – more than a sporting risk – in bringing him, to give him a visibility, because OM isn’t Getafe.’
