West Bromwich Albion are said to be in advanced talks with an American businessman over a potential takeover.

The West Midlands-based side currently sit fifth in the Championship table and have impressed under manager Carlos Corberan. 

Now, Florida entrepreneur Shilen Patel is rumoured to be in line to takeover Albion’s current owner Guochuan Lai, according to Telegraph Sport.

He declined to pay back a £5 m loan which was paid to one of his companies in June 2021 and has been unably to provide investment outside television money, all while borrowing.

Now, Mr Patel is leading the race to complete a takeover, which will cost an estimated £60m in total.

Previously, he was the founder and chief executive of HealthAxis group, a software company based in Tampa.

Earlier today it was revealed West Brom are signing Andreas Weimann on loan from Bristol City in a deal that will see Taylor Gardner-Hickman go the other way on a permanent transfer.

Austria international Weimann, 32, has scored over 50 goals for Bristol City since joining from Derby County in 2018 and Carlos Corberan hopes his experience and goal threat can give his Albion side an extra cutting edge as they chase promotion.

Versatile defender Gardner-Hickman has been on loan from West Brom at Ashton Gate this season, making 23 appearances, and figured in their FA Cup draw with West Ham.

Following a 4-1 win over Aldershot in the FA Cup third-round, West Brom will now face Blackburn at home on Saturday.
