Thibaut Courtois was born on May 11, 1992, in the city of Bree in Flanders, to his Walloon father, Thierry Courtois, and a Flemish mother, Gitte Courtois. He was raised alongside his siblings, Valerie Courtois and Gaitan Courtois.
Courtois began his career with local side Bilzen V.V., playing as a left-back. Soon in 1999, he joined Racing Genk at the age of seven, and it was there that he was converted into a goalkeeper witnessing his abilities.
As a young boy, Courtois was clumsy and, at times, absent-minded. He once said he was thinking “too much” during a forward roll at gymnastics and completely took out his teacher.
