In a groundbreaking move, Apple Music subscribers will soon have the ability to enjoy full-length tracks directly within the TikTok app, eliminating the need to switch between platforms. This innovation comes from a collaboration between Apple Music and TikTok, introducing the features Play Full Song and Listening Party. These functionalities, set to be globally available in the coming weeks, allow users to link their accounts and access an integrated Apple Music player within TikTok.
The duo of Play Full Song and Listening Party aims to streamline music discovery for Apple Music subscribers on TikTok, while ensuring fair compensation for artists. By leveraging Apple’s MusicKit technology, the full-length song playback ensures that streams are credited and paid within the Apple Music ecosystem.
When TikTok users stumble upon a catchy tune on their For You or Sound Detail pages, they will soon have the option to tap the Play Full Song button. This action will launch an Apple Music player, granting subscribers the opportunity to enjoy the complete track, along with a tailored stream of additional song recommendations. Moreover, users can seamlessly add tracks they discover on TikTok to their Apple Music playlists, akin to previous integrations with Spotify and SoundCloud.
“Accessing the music you love should be seamless,” remarked Apple Music’s Ole Obermann. “With Play Full Song, our subscribers can effortlessly transition from discovering a track on TikTok to enjoying the full version instantly, maintaining their listening momentum.”
Listening Party, an extension of the Play Full Song feature, enables multiple TikTok users to enjoy songs simultaneously. Apple envisions this feature as a means to “unite artists and fans through music,” fostering a communal Apple Music space within TikTok where fans can enjoy songs from their favorite artists, interact with one another in real-time, and even connect directly with the artist.
While TikTok has previously collaborated with other music streaming platforms, this partnership with Apple Music stands out as particularly extensive. After the closure of its own short-lived music streaming service in 2024, TikTok appears to be strategically aligning with its competitors, signaling a new era of collaboration.
