Internally termed “World Knowledge Answers,” this upcoming feature is designed to enable users to fetch information and receive AI-generated summaries sourced from the web. The feature will present a blend of text, images, videos, and other points of interest, aiming to compete with similar AI search capabilities from companies such as OpenAI and Perplexity.

Integrating AI search into Siri forms part of Apple’s strategy to enhance the voice assistant with fresh functionalities, permitting it to utilize personal data and execute tasks informed by the current on-screen content. The enhanced version of Siri is expected to function by employing a planner for processing voice or text queries, a search mechanism to explore user data or the internet, and a summarizing component to compile the findings for users.

This week, according to Bloomberg, Apple and Google formalized a deal allowing Apple to test a Google-developed AI model to aid in crafting Siri’s summaries. Additionally, Apple intends to employ its AI models to examine user data, though it continues to assess Anthropic’s Claude and Gemini for orchestrating Siri’s planning feature.

As Apple prepares to unveil its iPhone 17 series next week, the company is anticipated to introduce the AI-enhanced Siri with the rollout of iOS 26.4, possibly happening as soon as next March.
